is a friendly reminder regarding Mid-LIFE 2007. We will be gathering
near San Francisco at
Mercy Center (www.mercy-center.org) in Burlingame, CA. Our keynote speaker
will be scholar, teacher, and film producer, Fr. Daniel
G. Groody (see his brief bio
at at the bottom of this email). Marianist LIFE moderator Marlena Johnston from Archbishop Riordan High School will also present on how
we can incorporate social
justice, the pastoral circle, and immigration into our schools, parishes, and
Marianist LIFE Communities. For the first time we are offering an optional "Day
of Reflection & Retreat" on Friday.
Brief Biography Daniel G. Groody is a Catholic priest, a Holy Cross religious, a scholar, teacher, and film producer. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Theology and the Director of the Center for Latino Spirituality and Culture at the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He spent many years working in Latin America, particularly along the U.S.- Mexican Border, and is the author of various books and articles which have been translated into five languages, including Border of Death, Valley of Life: An Immigrant Journey of Heart and Spirit, and a forthcoming book called Globalization, Spirituality and Justice: Navigating the Path to Peace (2007). He is also editor of two forthcoming books, The Option for the Poor in Christian Theology (2007), and co-editor of A Promised Land, A Perilous Journey: Theological Perspectives on Migration (2007). He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame in the Great Books Program (Liberal Studies), a Master of Divinity and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Jesuit School of Theology, and a doctorate in theology from the Graduate Theological Union. He is also the executive producer of various films and documentaries, including Strangers No Longer and Dying to Live: A Migrant’s Journey,” which has been accepted into various international film festivals, nominated for national awards, and has aired on PBS. He teaches courses in U.S. Latino Spirituality, Globalization, Christian Spirituality and Social Justice, and lectures widely in the United States as well as Latin America and Europe. |
