ROLE DESCRIPTION—AREA COORDINATORS
PROVINCE OF THE UNITED STATES

Below is a description of the responsibilities of the area coordinators appointed by the Provincial in consultation with the Provincial Council. Although the area coordinator is ultimately responsible for the areas listed, he is encouraged to delegate to other religious in the area the coordination of certain celebrations or meetings. It is also clear to the Provincial Council that in the different areas of the Province, the gatherings suggested will take on very different styles. In some areas (e.g. St. Louis and Hawaii) more frequent area gatherings may be possible. In other areas of the Province subgroup gatherings may be more appropriate (e.g. Ohio—Cleveland, Dayton, and Cincinnati). Finally, in other areas, less frequent gatherings are more realistic and a longer gathering may be more appropriate (combining several elements).

Responsibilities:

1. Organizing intercommunity celebrations of certain Marianist feasts and other important days (e.g. Foundation Day)

2. Coordinating with the Province Office of Religious Life the celebration of Jubilees.

3. Coordinating with the Province Office of Religious Life the celebration of funerals for our Brothers.

4. Coordinating sessions with Provincial Chapter delegates before and/or after the Provincial Chapter, especially the Spring business session of the Chapter.

5. Meeting once a year together with the Provincial Council and the other area coordinators to reflect on aspects of Province life.

The area coordinators are appointed by the Provincial in consultation with the Council usually from, but not exclusively from, the Directors of the given area. The area coordinators serve at the discretion of the Provincial.
